If you claim HRA, your employer wants rent receipts — usually one for every period of the financial year, each signed by your landlord. Writing twelve by hand is tedious and easy to get wrong. Fill the details in once here and get them all as a printable PDF, two receipts to a page with a cut line between them. Built for India: rupees, lakh and crore in the amount in words, and a labelled space for the revenue stamp. Everything is generated on your device, so your landlord’s name and address are never sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Choose filled-in receipts, or blank ones to write by hand.
  2. Say how many you need and whether they are monthly or quarterly.
  3. Pick the month you start from — the end date fills in to match.
  4. Add the names, address and rent, then download and print.

Examples

  • Twelve monthly receipts for April 2026 to March 2027 at 20,000 a month
  • Four quarterly receipts, each showing the monthly rent and the quarter total

Frequently asked questions

Is a rent receipt enough to claim HRA?
It is the core document, but employers differ on what else they want. Most ask for receipts covering each period of the year, and many also want the landlord’s PAN once annual rent passes one lakh. Some have their own form they would rather you used. Check what your payroll team asks for before printing a whole year — the only thing worse than no receipts is twelve of the wrong kind.
Do I need a revenue stamp on a rent receipt?
By convention a one rupee revenue stamp goes on a receipt for a cash payment above 5,000, with the landlord signing across it so the signature covers both stamp and paper. That is why the stamp box sits directly above the signature line here. If rent is paid by bank transfer the stamp is generally not expected, and your bank statement is stronger evidence anyway. The tool leaves the space and labels it: a printed picture of a stamp would be worthless, because the point is a physical stamp your landlord actually signs over.
Do I need my landlord's PAN?
Usually yes once annual rent is above one lakh, because your employer is expected to collect it before allowing the exemption. It is not printed on these receipts, so if your employer wants it, give it on their declaration form alongside the receipts. Below that threshold it is normally not asked for at all.
Can I print the receipts blank and fill them in by hand?
Yes, that is the second mode. The receipt number and the period are still printed, since both are known from the range you chose, and everything else becomes a ruled line. It suits a landlord who would rather write the amount themselves, or anyone who wants a small book of receipts ready for the year ahead.
Can I write the names in Hindi or another Indian script?
Not on these receipts yet. They are drawn with the built-in PDF fonts, which cover the Latin alphabet, digits and common punctuation, so a name in Devanagari or Gurmukhi is refused rather than rendered as broken glyphs. Our watermark tool already handles ten Indian scripts and the same treatment is planned here.
Does this prove I paid the rent?
No, and no receipt generator can. This produces a document from what you type. What makes it evidence is your landlord signing it, and what corroborates it is a bank record of the money leaving your account. A receipt for rent that was never paid is not made true by being printed neatly.
