A unit price calculator tells you which of two pack sizes is genuinely cheaper by working out the price per unit for each. Supermarkets frequently price larger packs so they look like better value when they aren't, and comparing per-unit costs is the only reliable way to see through it. Enter both options and you'll get a clear verdict plus the percentage you save. It runs on your device.
How to use it
- Enter the price and quantity for the first option.
- Do the same for the second option, using the same unit for both.
- See which is better value, the per-unit prices, and how much you save.
Examples
- A: ₹90 for 1.5 kg (₹60/kg) vs B: ₹50 for 0.75 kg (₹66.67/kg) → A wins, saving 10%.
- Bigger isn't always cheaper — this is how you check.
Frequently asked questions
- What is unit price and why compare it?
- Unit price is the cost per single unit — per kilogram, litre, or item. It's the only fair way to compare different pack sizes, because a lower sticker price on a smaller pack can still be worse value per unit.
- Is the bigger pack always cheaper?
- No. Bigger packs usually cost less per unit, but not always — promotions, premium sizes, and 'family pack' pricing regularly make the large size worse value. Checking takes seconds and often surprises people.
- How do I compare different units (g vs kg)?
- Convert both to the same unit before entering them. 750 g becomes 0.75 kg, or enter both in grams — as long as both quantities use the same unit, the comparison is valid.
- Does this work for price-per-100g labels?
- Yes. Enter the price and quantity as shown on each pack and the calculator does the normalising for you. Shelf labels in many countries already show unit price, but they're not always in the same unit across brands.
