Frequently asked questions

Does the countdown include today?

No — it counts the days remaining from today to the target, so a target of tomorrow shows 1 day and today shows 0. That matches how people naturally say days to go rather than days including today.

How do I count down to an exam date?

Can I share my countdown with someone?

Not as a link. The dates you type stay inside this page and are never written into the address, so copying the URL sends the tool but not your countdown. Send the target date instead and the other person will reach the same answer — provided you both set the start date rather than leaving it blank, since a blank field reads today from their device rather than yours. Nothing you enter is stored or transmitted, which is the trade: no saved countdowns, and no data to leak either.

Why does the day count change at midnight?

Because the countdown measures whole calendar days, and it reads today's date from your device in UTC. The number therefore drops at midnight UTC — half past five in the morning in India, and the previous afternoon or evening across the Americas — rather than at your local midnight. Two people counting down to the same date can see different numbers for those few hours as a result. Enter the start date explicitly if you need the count anchored to your own calendar.

How many days until my exam if I only want study days?

Split the question in two. This gives the calendar countdown, which is what the date on the admit card means; the working days calculator counts Monday to Friday only, which is closer to the days you will realistically sit down and revise. Neither is a plan on its own — the number that usually helps most is the calendar count divided by the topics left, because that tells you the pace rather than the pressure.

Does the hours figure account for daylight saving?

No. Hours is simply the day count multiplied by 24, which is exact in UTC and exact anywhere that does not change its clocks, India included. Where daylight saving applies, one day in the span runs to 23 or 25 hours on a local clock, so the figure can be an hour out either way. It is a headline number for a countdown, not a basis for scheduling something to the minute.

Can I count down to a time, not just a date?

Not here — the tool works in whole calendar dates, so the smallest unit it reports is a day and the hours figure is derived from that. This is deliberate for the things people usually count down to, where the date is fixed long before the time is.
